C’EST UN ENDROIT QUE JE CONNAIS ASSEZ BIEN

Le 31 Janvier, 17h : discussion avec l’historien John C. Welchman, Véronique Bourgoin et Juli Susin.
L’exposition réunit des sculptures en céramique de Juli Susin, des tirages analogiques et des rayogrammes de Véronique Bourgoin, ainsi qu’une sélection d’archives de Royal Book Lodge, un projet éditorial initié par les deux artistes et regroupant au fil du temps de nombreux.ses ami.e.s. artistes. Depuis plus de trente ans, Véronique Bourgoin et Juli Susin développent des pratiques distinctes qui n’ont cessé de dialoguer et de se croiser, nourries par des affinités formelles et thématiques, des préoccupations politiques partagées, et surtout par leur engagement commun en faveur de la création comme espace de recherche et de collaboration. En résonance avec le dessin éponyme de Toyen dont l’exposition emprunte le titre, le projet révèle une constellation de gestes et de formes nourries à la fois par l’héritage du surréalisme et par une proximité critique avec les Situationnistes, où l’expérimentation et l’expérience vécue occupent une place centrale. L’exposition est accompagnée d’un texte de John C. Welchman, historien de l’art et auteur de référence sur leurs pratiques et sur Royal Book Lodge, qui en éclaire la portée singulière et l’importance historique dans le champ de l’art contemporain.

Air de Paris presents C’est un endroit que je connais assez bien [A place I know quite well], an exhibition bringing together ceramic sculptures by Juli Susin, analog prints and rayographs by Véronique Bourgoin, as well as a selection of archives from Royal Book Lodge—an editorial project initiated by the two artists that has gradually brought together many artist friends over time. For more than thirty years, Véronique Bourgoin and Juli Susin have developed distinct practices that have continuously engaged in dialogue and intersected, nourished by formal and thematic affinities, shared political concerns, and above all by a common commitment to creation as a space for research and collaboration. Echoing Toyen’s eponymous drawing from which the exhibition takes its title, the project reveals a constellation of gestures and forms shaped both by the legacy of Surrealism and by a critical proximity to the Situationists, in which experimentation and lived experience occupy a central place. The exhibition is accompanied by a text by John C. Welchman, an art historian and leading author on their practices and on the Royal Book Lodge, shedding light on its singular scope and historical importance within the field of contemporary art.
